Lydney sits on the River Severn, its harbour created when the Lydney Canal was built in 1813 to serve the town’s industrial trade. Lydney Park, on the town’s edge, contains the remains of a Roman temple dedicated to Nodens, alongside a fine Roman villa — a real piece of ancient history within easy reach of the modern town.
