Until December 2011, Oakley was home to the smaller of GCHQ’s two Cheltenham sites. Part of that former GCHQ site has since been reclaimed and redeveloped, with a Sainsbury’s supermarket now standing on part of the land — a useful marker of the area’s more recent change alongside its centuries-old origins.
